'Heated Rivalry' Season 2 eyes April 2027 release, to begin filming this summer

'Heated Rivalry' Season 2 eyes April 2027 release, to begin filming this summer

The second season of “Heated Rivalry" is targeting an April 2027 premiere and is set to begin filming this summer.

In a guest appearance on “CBS Mornings,” writer and director Jacob Tierney shared the update alongside executive producer Brendan Brady.

“I did not know I was going to get a second season, but it's all happening. We're writing it now. We're getting ready to start shooting this summer, and there will be more ‘Heated Rivalry’ on your TVs as, like, truly as soon as humanly possible,” Jacob said.

Brendan added, “Like the best parts of this show, just enjoy the yearn.”

Jacob also reflected on why the series resonated strongly with viewers.

“I think, ultimately, because it's very romantic. I think that's what it is, that it has the hallmarks and trappings of a real classic romance. Years of longing and yearning and trying to get together and do the right thing for each other and not being able to, and then eventually a happy ending,” he said.

According to the creator, what sets “Heated Rivalry” apart is its tight focus on the central love story.

“And what the show is, that I think is a rarity in terms of a televised version of a romance, is that it is laser focused on that love story. There's not a lot of diversion from it. And I think that's what the audience responds to is kind of the intensity and the focus of the storytelling, because it's just you're really watching Shane and Ilya miss each other and then meet each other,” he said.

A story of rivalry and romance set in the world of hockey, "Heated Rivalry," captivated the world following its premiere on HBO in October.
