‘Lord of the Flies’ gets Netflix adaptation, to premiere on May 4

William Golding’s classic novel “Lord of the Flies” is coming to Netflix with a four-part series.

According to the streaming platform, the adaptation aims to present the story through a more contemporary lens while staying true to Golding’s exploration of human nature.

It will reimagine the dystopian tale of a group of English schoolboys stranded on a deserted island after a deadly plane crash. As they struggle to survive, their attempt to maintain order quickly unravels, giving way to tribalism and violent power struggles.

The series stars David McKenna as Piggy, Winston Sawyers as Ralph, Lox Pratt as Jack, Ike Talbut as Simon, and Thomas Connor as Roger.

Filming took place in Malaysia and the project is directed by Marc Munden and written by Jack Thorne.

“We couldn’t shoot with the children after 6 o’clock, yet a lot of the action takes place after dark. Mark Wolf (director of photography) and I developed this idea of shooting day for night with an infrared camera, which responds to the green foliage, changing it to pink and red. It has a hallucinatory feel, heightened with magical realism,” Munden said.

“Lord of the Flies” will begin streaming on May 4. — Carby Basina/LA, GMA Integrated News
