?'Bridgerton' Season 5 is now in production, to feature its 'first same-gender central romance'

Lady Whistledown is not slowing down anytime soon.

The season 5 of “Bridgerton” is now in production, Netflix announced on Instagram.

The teaser showed Francesca Bridgerton (Hannah Dodd) and her cousin-in-law Michaela Stirling (Masali Baduza) embarking on a new beginning following the death of Lord John Stirling (Victor Alli).

“Do not fret, dearest readers, for a certain countess shall find love again,” the caption read.

On Tudum, Netflix said the upcoming season will be the show's "first same-gender central romance." Set two years after Stirling's death, his widow Francesca decides to enter the marriage mart for "practical reasons."

"But when John’s cousin Michaela returns to London to tend to the Kilmartin estate, Francesca’s complicated feelings will have her questioning whether to stick to her pragmatic intentions or pursue her inner passions," Netflix said.

According to Netflix, "Dodd is glad Season 5 will allow the Regency-era series to shine a light on a queer relationship like Francesca and Michaela’s."

"[Those love stories] have traditionally been excluded from things like period drama — and queer people did exist, have always existed, and will always exist. So they deserve a love story just like everybody else," Dodd said.

Meanwhile, “Bridgerton” Season 4, which is streaming on Netflix, centers on the Cinderella-like love story of Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) and Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha).

Based on the books by Julia Quinn, "Bridgerton" follows eight close-knit siblings of the powerful Bridgerton family as they attempt to find love.

Season 1 followed Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor), Season 2 centered on Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey), and Season 3 focused on Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton).

In the previous season, Filipino actors James Bradwell and Martin Sarreal played the roles of Lord Basilio and Lord Barnell.
