Open auditions announced for ‘Gabriela: The Musical’
The Barefoot Theatre Collaborative will be holding open auditions for “Gabriela: The Musical,” a new stage production inspired by the life of revolutionary figure Gabriela Silang.
The musical revisits events in 1762 Ilocos during the revolt led by Diego Silang, but shifts the focus to Gabriela not just as his widow, but as a key figure in the resistance. It also incorporates elements of myth and indigenous identity, including her Itneg roots.
The company is looking for male and female performers for lead, supporting, and ensemble roles. Applicants are expected to have a strong background in dance and must be able to sing, act, and perform in Filipino. Roles are open to those who can portray late teens, late 20s to early 30s, as well as male roles in their late 40s to early 50s.
Auditions will be conducted online. Applicants must submit a video featuring one Filipino song of at least 16 bars, either with minus one or a cappella, along with a one-minute dance or movement piece. The deadline for submissions is April 15, 2026 at 6 p.m.
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to an in-person callback on April 21, 2026.
The musical is scheduled to run from September to December 2026, with rehearsals taking place on weekdays in Quezon City.
The creative team includes Pat Valera (book and lyrics), Myke Salomon (music), and Mikko Angeles (director). According to the company, this is a professional production, and selected performers will be under contract and compensated for rehearsals, performances, and related engagements.
Barefoot Theatre Collaborative has staged several notable productions in recent years, including "Mula sa Buwan," "Bar Boys: The Musical," and "We Aren’t Kids Anymore."
