Hungary is going viral after it elected a hot new Prime Minister earlier this week. His name is Peter Magyar and he defeated the veteran politician Viktor Orban in an election that had a record voter turnout at 77%, "the highest ever recorded in a Hungarian election," Euronews reported.

But there's more to 45-year-old Magyar than his stunning victory and his promise of change. Read below and learn more about Hungary's new good looking prime minister

1. He actually defeated his former boss. Magyar was an Orban loyalist. He was a member of the ruling Fidesz party until just two years ago in 2024, when a scandal rocked the party and he gave an explosive video interview "accusing Orban and his allies of 'hiding behind women's skirts'," CNN reported.

Shortly after, he joined the Tisza party, quickly became its leader, and in helping the party win nearly 30% of Hungarian votes in the European Parliament election, became an MEP or Member of the European Parliament.

2. Magyar has a 'sex life.' In February this year, Magyar filed a police report "after photos of a bedroom circulated online hinting at the existence of a sex tape," NPR reported.

According to Magyar, the photos were from a 2024 incident when a hit girlfriend at that time allegedly recorded their consensual encounter.

Translated to English from Hungarian, Magyar exposed the blackmail plan on X (formerly Twitter), saying "yes I am a 45-year-old man. I have a sexual life. With an adult parter."

"Dear Fidesz cowards, feel free to bring everything out, falsify it as you please. I will not give in to blackmail or threats," he added.

3. He is a divorcé. Magyar was previously married to Judit Verga, also a Fidesz party member.

In fact, she was appointed justice minister in 2019, a year after the family returned to Budapest following 10 years in Belgium, where Magyar worked as a diplomat.

They announced their divorce in 2023, according to the New York Times. In 2024 when an aforementioned scandal rocked the party that proved pivotal to Magyar's political ascension, Verga was forced to quit her position as justice minister as well as her public life altogether.

But during 2025's lead up to the election, "Verga accused Magyar of verbal and physical abuse, including locking her in a room at point point during their marriage," NPR said.

"What kind of person is this? When his wife can no longer bear the incredible drama and abuse she is living through and announces that she wants a divorce, he uses this vile manipulation. And while he is crying and begging, alternately terrorizing her that he can't divorce her, he starts blackmailing her," Euronews quoted Verga as saying.

Magyar has consistently denied claims of domestic abuse, Euronews  added.

4. He is a father of three. With Verga, Magyar built a family of five, raising three minor kids.

In his February 2026 statement on X, where he exposed the alleged planned blackmail against him, Magyar leaned on his role as a father, saying "I have three minor children who are obviously ignored by this vile 'family friend' government."

On Instagram last Christmas, he posted a photo with two of his three sons and managed to squeeze in a photo of himself with his infant niece. "She was crying a bit but when I told her I was goin to sing to her, she fell asleep instead," Magyar wrote in the caption, showcasing his sense of humor.

5. A lawyer from a wealthy family. Magyar began his career much like most of his family: as a lawyer and judge. The former Hungarian president Ferenc Madl, who served from 2000 until 2005, was his godfather.

According to the New York Times, "he was born into a conservative Budapest family and raised in a wealthy district on the eastern side of the Danube Riber."

He studied law at Budapest's Pazmany Peter Catholic University and is a catholic. In fact, he was at Pope Francis' funeral last year, per New York Times.

A BONUS: There's more where Magyar came from. If you think Magyar is all the eye candy the world is getting from the current Hungarian government, we're all wrong.

On Friday morning (Philippine time), Magyar posted a photo with Mark Randai, and equally hot politician who supported him since the beginning.

"We walked together on the many bumpy road leading to system change," he captioned a photo of the two of them from 2024.

According to his Instagram profile, Randai is the vice president of the Tisza Party.
