“Himala” is the classic 1982 Filipino film directed by the late National Artist for Film Ishmael Bernal and written by National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts Ricky Lee.
The story follows Elsa (Nora), who is believed to have healing powers after allegedly seeing an apparition of the Virgin Mary. She performs miracles in her poor town of Cupang, attracting flocks of pilgrims to their town.
“Himala” tackles themes of true faith, mass hysteria, and fanaticism, allowing viewers to ask questions about what to really believe in.
It is also available on Netflix and YouTube. —Nika Roque/CDC, GMA News
