Steam Machine: How does it work, and how much is it?
Valve has launched its latest hardware: the Steam Machine.
Marketed as "powerful PC gaming made easy, in a small and mighty package," the Steam Machine is optimized for gaming, and thus has the power to play your entire Steam library.
SteamOS
The Steam Machine seems to be a cross between a console and a PC. Powered by the "gaming-first" SteamOS, it allows users to install their own apps, or even their own operating system.
The SteamOS features cloud saves, and "over six times the horsepower of Steam Deck." It also promises 4k gaming at 60 fps.
Small, cool, and quiet
The cube-shaped Steam Machine is roughly six inches in size, and can be easily placed under your TV or on top of your desk.
Valve also promised that it keeps cool and "runs whisper-quiet."
Storage and connectivity
The Steam Machine is available in two storage sizes: 512GB and 2TB. User can expand the storage via microSD.
Aside from Wi-Fi connectivity, the Steam Machine also has a dedicated antenna for its Bluetooth.
Price
The Steam Machine has been revealed to cost a whopping $1,040 (approximately P64,000) for the 512GB variant, and $1,349 (approximately P82,000) for the 2TB variant.
Netizens, gamers, and publications have already pointed out that it's more expensive than a PlayStation 5 Pro, while others describe it as an entry-level PC.
Valve's Steam Machine is now available for reservation via sign ups on the Steam website.
Aside from the Steam Machine, Valve is coming out with other Steam Hardware such as the Steam Controller and the Steam Frame. —MGP, GMA News
