'The Apothecary Diaries' movie teases mysterious new adventure for Maomao in first trailer
Fans finally got their first look at “The Apothecary Diaries: The Movie” following the release of its official teaser trailer, offering a glimpse of a new mystery that awaits Maomao on the big screen.
On Friday, TOHO Animation released the 51-second video, which shows Maomao tasked with escorting the remains of a concubine who died five years earlier, returning the coffin to the consort’s hometown.
As the journey unfolds, Jinshi entrusts Maomao with another mission: to investigate a mystery connected to a hidden treasure. The trailer also introduces a young boy named Mu Qing, whose role appears to be tied to the unfolding case.
“The Apothecary Diaries: The Movie” is scheduled to premiere in theaters on December 11.
"The Apothecary Diaries" follows the adventures of Maomao, a smart apothecary girl who ends up becoming a food taster inside the Imperial Court of a country inspired by ancient China. She gets embroiled in court politics, secrets, and plots and tries to solve cases of the inner palace.
The series is originally a light novel which later got adapted into manga and anime. The anime's first and second seasons are currently streaming on Netflix. A third season is also arriving in October. —Carby Rose Basina/JCB, GMA News
