'Solo Leveling' anime movie in the works

Fans of “Solo Leveling” have another adventure to look forward to as Aniplex and Crunchyroll officially announced a new theatrical anime film called “Solo Leveling: Beyond the System.”

The announcement was made during the Crunchyroll Showcase at Anime Expo 2026 in Los Angeles, confirming that the franchise's next chapter will head to the big screen instead of television.

According to Crunchyroll, the movie is currently in production and will continue the story following the events of “Solo Leveling Season 2: Arise from the Shadow,” with Sung Jinwoo embarking on a new journey after the dramatic conclusion of the anime's second season.

The announcement was accompanied by a teaser visual and a companion concept video, offering fans their first glimpse of the upcoming film.

No other details have been revealed so far.

Based on the hit South Korean web novel by Chugong and its bestselling webtoon adaptation, “Solo Leveling” follows the story of Sung Jinwoo, once known as the world's weakest hunter, who gains the mysterious ability to continuously level up after surviving a deadly dungeon.

The anime series premiered in 2024, and swept nine major categories at the 2025 Crunchyroll Anime Awards, including Anime of the Year, Best Action, and Best Character.

In 2025, it was announced that it will have a live action adaptation with South Korean actor Byeon Woo Seok giving life to Sung Jinwoo. —Jade Veronique Yap/JCB, GMA News
