Matt Damon, Tom Holland share challenges and 'wonderful joy' in filming 'The Odyssey' on IMAX
Christopher Nolan filming "The Odyssey" on IMAX, becoming the first feature film director to do so, is nothing short of impressive.
In an interview with GMA Network’s Lyn Ching, Tom Holland said Nolan had always wanted to make an IMAX film, and “The Odyssey” made it possible.
“And I think to be a part of that journey in some way is such an amazing feeling,” the actor said. “Especially to be part of this movie where he achieved this goal that he’s had for I don’t know, maybe 30 years he’s been trying to figure out how to do this.”
“And I think to see how his relationship has evolved with IMAX is such an amazing thing to see a director innovating in the way that he does,” he added.
Matt Damon, who plays Odysseus, said that the film required much effort.
“But there was this wonderful joy to that because we were all there for the same reason,” he said.
“We all wanted to see if we could do a film entirely in IMAX, do this story, the most ambitious story, practically and on that 15 per film. Everyone was very patient with each other in the sense that it was all new,” he added.
Matt recalled that they had to stop in the middle of scenes to reload the camera.
“There was such a reverence for everyone else’s work and what they were going through,” he said.
The veteran actor also expressed admiration for Nolan as he was in the same boat as everyone.
“And if you look at your leader and your leader is kind of there suffering with you, you know in this effort, it just elevates the project to this place in all of your lives,” Matt said.
“Knowing that it’s this collaboration and every single person’s contributing, it just was a really amazing experience,” he added.
