'Beliebe': Ted Lasso gives pep talk to Justin Bieber at FIFA World Cup halftime show

Fiction met reality at the FIFA World Cup halftime show.

Before Justin Bieber took center stage to perform his hit "Everything Hallelujah," Ted Lasso, the fictional soccer coach played by Jason Sudeikis in the series of the same name, gave the Canadian pop star a pep talk to boost his confidence.

Ted called Justin up onstage and told him, "Listen to me. Go out there. Don't be nervous. Nobody's watching, alright? Make us proud."

The whole pep talk was completed with a "Beliebe" sign held up by Coach Beard (Brendan Hunt), a play on Justin's last name that is also reminiscent of the makeshift "Believe" sign stuck up in the locker room of the “Ted Lasso” series.

On X Monday morning (Philippine time), the official Ted Lasso account also played into the whole skit. "Beliebe," it simply wrote.

At the halftime show of the World Cup, Justin performed after the high-energy numbers of Madonna and BTS.

He slowed the tempo with an acoustic rendition of "Everything Hallelujah," changing the song's final words to "World Cup Hallelujah."

Shakira and Nigeria's Burna Boy then joined the show to perform "Dai Dai," the official song of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Debuting in 2020, “Ted Lasso” follows the story of an American football coach who is hired to manage AFC Richmond, a struggling English team. Its fourth season is set to premiere in August on Apple TV+.
