'The Silent Patient' thriller novel to get film adaptation
Alex Michaelides’ bestselling psychological thriller novel “The Silent Patient” is headed to the big screen.
According to a report by Deadline, Sony Pictures has joined Annapurna and Plan B to develop a feature film adaptation of the book.
The project is reportedly being fast-tracked, with the producers hoping to attach a director in the coming months.
Michaelides also confirmed the adaptation in an Instagram post.
“The question I get asked most often is ‘will there will be a film of The Silent Patient?’ - and I’m thrilled to be able to finally say the answer is: Yes!” he wrote.
“It’s been a long wait, and I’m so excited that all these characters I love - Alicia and Theo, Ruth and Dr Diomedes - are finally being brought to life.”
The author added that he will share more updates once casting announcements are made.
Published in 2019, “The Silent Patient” follows Alicia Berenson, a famous painter who shocks the public after fatally shooting her husband and refusing to speak another word. Her silence turns the case into a gripping mystery, drawing the attention of criminal psychotherapist Theo Faber, who becomes determined to get Alicia to speak and uncover the truth behind the crime.
The novel became a global phenomenon after debuting at No. 1 on The New York Times Best Seller list. According to Deadline, it has spent more than 200 weeks on the list, sold over 12 million copies worldwide, and has been translated into 51 languages.
