As ‘Closer’ turns 10, The Chainsmokers share songwriting process of 2016 hit track

Ten years later, and nothing comes "Closer" to the feeling of hearing one of the defining anthems of 2016.

On Instagram, The Chainsmokers commemorated the 10th anniversary of their hit song "Closer" by sharing never-before-seen footage of its songwriting process, featuring Shaun Frank and Drew Taggart.

In the video, the two are seen casually writing the lyrics, searching for words that rhyme as they sing along to the music arrangement.

“Closer turns 10 years old today, so we went in the archive and cannot believe we found this clip that Chris Yoder shot of Shaun and I writing the lyrics,” Drew said.

The Chainsmokers also shared an extended version of the songwriting process on YouTube, where they first listened to the demo.

In a separate post, the duo said the hit song "changed our lives forever."

“Eternally grateful for all the love and support you have shown this song over the years,” they said.

"Closer," featuring Halsey, received multiple nominations and awards, including a nomination for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the 2017 Grammy Awards, Billboard Music Awards for Top Hot 100 Song and Top Collaboration in 2017, and the Winning Song award at the ASCAP Pop Music Awards 2018.

As of writing, "Closer" has garnered more than three billion streams on Spotify.

The Chainsmokers are set to perform at Lollapalooza on August 2, with the festival headlined by Tate McRae and The xx.

Meanwhile, SB19 is set to make history as the first Filipino group to perform at Lollapalooza on July 30. In August, they will head to Japan for the Summer Sonic Festival.
