'Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave': Everything we know so far

At long last, we're getting another "Fire Emblem" game!

"Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave" is set to arrive this September, three years after "Fire Emblem: Engage," and seven years after the hit video game "Fire Emblem: Three Houses."

Finally, a month before its release, Nintendo shared more details about the upcoming title through a dedicated Direct.

Here's what we learned about the new "Fire Emblem" game:

The premise

The story is set in the Dagdan Empire, a prosperous land ruled by gods. Its capital city, Dagsion, draws in fighters from all over the land for the Heroic Games.

The prize for the champion? A wish.

Five years after the Heroic Games, however, the empire falls at the hands of the revived demon god, Balor.

The player is tasked by the progenitor god Sothis to save the world.

The heroes

The story revolves around the Four Heroes who play a significant role in the Heroic Games. However, with the fall of the empire comes their disappearance.

In order to carry out their mission, the protagonist travels back in time to the Heroic Games and assumes the role of one of the Four Heroes. Players are able to choose which of them to play, and each one has a different narrative and story route.

Below are Nintendo's descriptions of the Heroes:

• Cai – "From the peaceful village of Ribeira, Cai sets out with his childhood friends to win the Heroic Games and save his imprisoned father."
• Dietrich – "Washing ashore after an attack from an enormous monster, Dietrich decides to slake his thirst for battle by competing in the Heroic Games with new allies at his side."
• Theodora – "Hailing from the kingdom of Saramis, Theodora leads her veteran retainers into battle to restore the honor of her goddess – the loathed Keeper of Death and Night – and defend the peace of her kingdom."
• Leda – "Born into prestige and blessed with musical talent, Leda gives up everything to seek revenge against her father’s murderer. With companions in tow, she enters the Heroic Games after learning that the killer will be fighting as well."

Familiar elements

Classes, certification exams, skirmishes, exploration — "Three Houses" lovers, it's your time to shine!

The Heroic Games are a series of battles, so prepping your team is key. Players can train at the arena, buy weapons at the shopping arcade, take certification exams for unit class progressions, and even recruit warriors to your ranks.

Furthermore, players can venture outside of the capital for some exploration, where they can also participate in skirmish battles for extra XP.

And similar to previous "Fire Emblem" games, battles are strategic and turn-based. Players get to arrange their party on the field and employ various means of attack to win the matches.

Launch details

"Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave" is set to launch on September 17, exclusively on Switch 2.
