Finding the perfect wedding gown is one of the hardest — if not the hardest — tasks for a bride-to-be.

There are dozens of considerations to think of before saying yes to the dress. It’s a daunting task; perhaps it’s the reason some brides become the dreaded... bridezilla.

At the recently held annual bridal fashion show Marry Me at Marriott at the Manila Marriott Grand Ballroom on July 29, we caught up with five celebrity fashion designers and asked them: “What’s your best advice for future brides when it comes to finding the perfect wedding gown?”

Rei Escario: “Do not complicate things. Your first idea is usually the best.”

If the last name sounds familiar, it's because Rei is the brother of Jun Escario. A fashion designer himself, who worked with his brother Jun for this collection, Rei said “Your first idea is usually the best.”

With the advent of the internet, Rei knows finding pegs and inspirations are easy, but it could also lead brides to wanting to put all their ideas on their gown. “You need to edit, step back, and simplify,” he suggests.

Rei also shared an important consideration when looking for a gown. “The first things to consider when it comes to finding the perfect gown are the neckline and cut or silhouette. [These two things must] flaunt what needs to be flaunted and hide what needs to be hidden.”

Leo Almodal: “Try on some dresses.”

For future brides, Leo Almodal — whose trademark is sparkling, shimmering, splendid gowns because “every bride should shine” — suggests that brides go to shops to try on some dresses.

“Try on some dresses, so you will know what type of dress really fits you well. At the end of the day, you know your body [better] than designers,” Leo shared with GMA News Online.

Leo, who’s also an art director, suggests that betrothed couples should also invest in a good team of photographers and videographers because “after the wedding, it’s the memories that will remain.”

Michael Leyva: “Just be yourself, trust your gut feeling.”

Michael Leyva believes brides should trust their instinct. “Just be yourself and be confident... If you see [the gown for the first time], you’ll have that feeling [that says] ‘this is my gown’,” shares Michael. And if you get that gut feel, go with it.

He also urges brides to really save up for their gown because it’s going to be worth it. For example, his “Halo” collection which was showcased on “Marry Me At Marriott”, took him and his team of 40 people roughly six months to finish the gowns.

Veluz Puno-Reyes: “Be completely honest with yourself”

“They have to know their limitations,” designer Veluz Puno-Reyes said about future brides. “They have to be self-aware of their body type and at the same time they have to have a clear vision of their dream wedding.”

She adds, “I always draw my inspiration from the bride, so when I work on the gown, I want something that will reflect who she is. I want her to let me celebrate who she is and her persona in the dresses that I will make.”

“[Your] wedding is not the day to pretend to be someone else,” she points out with a smile.

Albert Andrada: “Focus on what you have decided.”

Veteran fashion designer Albert Andrada has made countless gowns for different kinds of brides — from traditional gowns to show-stopping creations for the more adventurous bride-to-be. But his top tip is so simple and precise.

Albert shares, “If you have already decided with your designer for a certain design, O always tell brides not to look at other designs and catalogs anymore because it will only confuse them. Just focus on what you have decided.” — LA, GMA News
