6 things to expect from ‘Styled with Heart’

Heart Evangelista is launching a new book, “Styled with Heart”, at the Manila International Book Fair on Sunday, straight off attending New York Fashion Week, if we may add.

It’s the Kapuso’s second book, her first on fashion, and if hype is to believed — none other than best-selling author Kevin Kwan wrote the foreword — it’s going to be a big hit.

It’s about fashion after all, a subject Heart more than well knows. Speaking with GMA News Online, Heart’s editor, Retty Contreas, reveals the Kapuso Queen of Creative Collaborations is a “dream to work with. She’s a creative, so she’s filled with all these great ideas. She clearly loves fashion and dressing up.”

Below, Retty lets us in on what else we should expect from the book.

1. Heart's fashion evolution. In the book, the Kapuso actress talks “about how her fashion is really a reflection of her life,” tracing her style evolution from when she entered the entertainment industry as a VJ some 20 years ago to being the social media darling that she is now.

“There is also a chapter on how she dresses for her mood — your clothes really do reflect how you feel. Heart believes in always dressing well, even during your worst days,” Retty said.

2. Heart's fashion rule of thumb. That is: Dress for your body. The book has several chapters where Heart would style girls according to different body types. “I was actually the plus-sized girl, and Heart and I had honest conversations on how I can look and feel my best. Apparently, it’s just about finding the right pieces and cuts for your body.”

3. Heart shares a simple guide to fashion. Figure out what you want to achieve whenever you dress up. Do you want to look slimmer? Taller? Highlight your waist? Shoulders? Arms? “For Heart, she loves dressing to look taller and longer. That’s her goal whenever she picks an outfit, because she knows that’s what will make her feel good.”

4. The book will help you figure out your shade of red. Says Retty, it’s really a trial and error process. But if you want to cut down the long process, “start with a neutral-toned red and then see if your skin tone favors cool tones or warm tones.”

5. Heart's piece of advice on when to blow your cash. Just invest in “forever pieces,” meaning closet staples. “She personally believes in investing in certain pieces that will last you forever if you take care of them.” According to Retty, they are ‘trend-proof’ pieces that you can use a million ways.”

6. Heart imparts a tip on color. Retty has learned quite a lot while working with Heart on the book, among which is how to wear color. “Take note of the hues you like and feel good in, even if they’re just two or three colors. This is a tip that we learned from Heart,” Retty said. For Heart, it’s red, blush and mint “because she knows she will feel 100% in those colors.”— LA, GMA News
