#PINNED: How to pull off safe and chic when you are required to go back to the office

How to pull off safe and chic when going back to your office job

#Pinned makes it easier for young Filipinos to  discover meaningful and enriching content and stories that will help them separate music from the noise, wheat from the chaff, and flowers from the weeds.

All our stories are written by young creatives who made it their life mission to know everything there is to know about how fellow young adults can make the most out of their limited down time every day, every week.

We’re sure that a lot of us are probably feeling very anxious at the thought of returning to work. Cases are still piling up and from the looks of it, mass testing is still not yet in the cards. All indications point to the fact that we’re still, ultimately, not yet ready to go back to our office jobs.

However, if you’re one of the unlucky professionals who are summoned back to work, for a variety of reasons, then you might as well make the most of out of it. Bring out all the new clothes that you bought from the boredom-fueled online shopping sprees that you’ve had,  your most favorite ensembles from before. Wear anything that makes you feel alive. Because trust us, you’re going to need that feeling when you inevitably battle with anxiousness and existential dread every time you go to work every day.

To help you plan your post-lockdown ensemble, we’ve curated five outfit looks for different occasions—perfect for when you want to feel safe yet stay chic at the same time.

1. Layer your slip dress over a shirt

Channel your inner Hallyu fan by dressing up the K-Style way. We’ve all probably jumped into the CLOY fever at some point, and one of the clothes Yoon Se Ri wore when she was in North Korea was a floral strappy dress paired with a white turtleneck top. To make this more suitable to our Philippine weather, try wearing your midi (or maxi) slip dress, with a thinner shirt underneath like how Camille Co does.

The extra layer of thin garment adds protection from the virus since less of your skin is exposed. Complete the look with your trusty face mask and some ankle boots to keep your feet covered.

Shirt
Boots

2. Juxtapose your baggy jeans and sneakers with a more feminine top

Puff sleeves are so popular these days. They’re a statement piece that looks romantic and playful and is perfect with anything edgy. Change up your usual oversized shirt and mom jeans combo with this dressy top. It gives off enough cool girl vibes with just the right amount of femininity on the side, perfect for your quick catch up with friends in the future.

Check out how Ricci Pamintuan casually styled her milkmaid top with high rise wide-leg denim jeans and some sneakers.

To top it off, she added long socks for a slouchier feel in contrast to her dainty top. Despite having a short sleeve top, this outfit is still safe since the other parts of your body are covered well. Just keep on washing your hands and avoid touching your face.

3. Rock the athleisure trend with your matching yoga set

We've all started hearing about the athleisure trend a couple of years ago, and it’s definitely here to stay. Whether you’re legit going to exercise or just trying to wear clothes as comfy as possible, try this trend by copping yoga coords in the same color. For this look, our style peg is Verniece Enciso.

The monochrome effect creates one seamless line from your head to toe so it gives an illusion that you are taller than you really are. This is perfect when you are heading out to jog around the neighborhood or simply running a quick errand. For more coverage, layer a tank top over your sports bra and tie it in front to look a little bit more flattering.

Running shoes

4. Sport the laid-back look with your favorite hoodie and slip ons

Your favorite oversized sweater can look exponentially stylish and put-together when paired with denim culottes and slip-ons. This look is such a no-brainer, so it's easy to throw on when you have nothing to wear which makes it perfect for your quick shopping trips to the mall to buy essential items you need. For our style inspo, we’re totally digging Laureen Uy’s cozy look on her grocery trip.

To pull off Laureen’s look, choose pieces that are loose or oversized. Cover your ankles with some cozy socks and accessorize with a small crossbody bag that also doubles as a functional piece to keep the things you need on your trip.

5. Jazz up your basics with statement shoes

Ah, the basics, a must-have in every girl's closet because they never go out of style. Give your go-to plain top and jeans combo an upgrade by styling them with some cool booties. The loudness of the boots provides balance to your closet staples without it being too overpowering to your whole 'fit. This look is perfect for when you want to be minimalist but still stylish.

Here’s Ida Anduyan's take on the back-to-basics fashion.

Pair eccentric shoes with something basic. Accessorize with a less structured clutch for a more playful look.

Denim cropped flare pants
Black socks

BONUS: Your post-quarantine OOTD wouldn’t be complete without your face mask to match with. Make your own out of a cute handkerchief or try one that’s made by our local fashion designers. Check out homegrown brands such as Apartment 8 Clothing, Anthill Fabric Gallery, and Threadsmith Philippines.

We're repeating this again if it didn't stick when we first mentioned this in the lede. Remember to wear clothes that make you feel alive. You're going to really, really need that feeling when you face the very real chance of getting infected when you go out.
