Winwyn Marquez explains why she didn't pick green for her Miss Universe Philippines 2025 gown

Winwyn Marquez is aware that people expected her to wear green for her Miss Universe Philippines 2025 evening gown, but she decided to go for a different color.

At Tuesday afternoon’s press conference for the pageant’s crowned winners and runners-up, Winwyn explained why she chose Ryan Ablaza Uson’s striking and dramatic magenta creation.

“A lot of people actually expected green, I think, but I wore that in the opening. But sometimes you have to leave something in the past, na you want to evolve, ‘di ba?” Winwyn said.

Winwyn was wearing a green gown when she won the country’s first Reina Hispanoamericana crown, which is why supporters thought that she would go with it again.

The Sparkle star shared that she was choosing between the colors yellow and magenta for her Miss Universe Philippines gown.

“But for some reason, when I tried the RAU gown, which is the magenta one, it really resonated with me with the tassel. Because I’m very particular with grace and movement, and I felt like the gown was me. I felt like it was moving with me. It was gliding with me,” she said.

Winwyn added that there is no deep meaning to why she chose the magenta gown.

“It’s just that I wanted that the gown moved with me.”

Following the coronation night, Winwyn got to celebrate her birthday with her fellow candidates.

“I celebrated my birthday, and some of the candidates went to my house, sinalubong namin ‘yung birthday ko,” she said.

“It's just nice to celebrate my birthday with the queens as well. And it's such a good gift kasi na-experience ko ang Miss Universe Philippines na dati ko lang dream, ngayon first runner up na ‘ko,” she added.

Winwyn represented Muntinlupa in the national pageant and finished 1st runner-up.

On Instagram, she said that everything about the journey was “so unexpected... a beautiful surprise I never thought would be mine.”
