What to know about the newly announced AirPods Max 2

Apple has officially unveiled the AirPods Max 2, the second-generation model of its over-ear headphones—part of the broader AirPods lineup, which also includes in-ear wireless earphones.

Here’s a quick breakdown of what’s new, according to Apple:

1. Improved sound quality and upgraded noise cancellation

The AirPods Max 2 now supports 24-bit, 48 kHz lossless audio when connected using the included USB-C cable.

This improvement in sound quality will enable music creators to "fully utilize AirPods Max throughout their entire professional workflow on Logic Pro and other music creation apps," Apple said.

The company added that with the USB-C connection, the headphones allow users to create and mix in Personalized Spatial Audio with head tracking.

Powered by Apple’s new H2 chip, the AirPods Max 2 delivers Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) that is up to 1.5x more effective than the previous generation.

This helps block out more environmental noise, including sounds from airplane engines and commuter trains.

2. New intelligent features and advanced tools

Several exciting features are making their way to the Max line for the first time.

Some of the smart new features include:

• Adaptive audio adjustments that respond to your environment
• Conversation awareness, which lowers volume when you start speaking
• Live translation, powered by Apple Intelligence, for in-person conversations across languages
• Siri gesture controls, letting users nod or shake their head to respond to notifications

Additionally, Apple is introducing more advanced controls and tools to their headphones, including:

• Studio-quality audio recording
• Camera remote function, allowing users to take photos or start/stop videos via the Digital Crown
• Personalized volume, which automatically adjusts sound based on user preferences over time

3. Design and sustainability updates

The AirPods Max 2 retain their signature over-ear design but now use 100% recycled materials in key components like magnets, ear cushions, and circuit boards.

They are available in five new colors: midnight, starlight, orange, purple, and blue.

4. Price and availability

The AirPods Max 2 is priced at $549 (P34,990).
