Panglao in Bohol named one of best secret beaches on earth

Panglao Island in Bohol province has been named one of the world's best secret beaches by a prestigious travel magazine, the Department of Tourism said Wednesday.

In its March 2012 issue, Travel+Leisure had cited Panglao as one of 15 beach hideaways that it said are "understated, unexpected, and—at least for now—under the radar."

"Panglao, Bohol has been named as one of the Best Secret Beaches on Earth by Travel+Leisure Magazine!" the DOT said in a post on its Twitter account.

The magazine described Panglao as accessible via an hour-long flight from Manila to Bohol island and a 25-minute drive across a 19th-century causeway.

It named Ananyana Beach Resort and Spa as one of the resorts occupying a prime spot on the beachfront serving Filipino-Mediterranean dishes like the penne with pork adobo.

The magazine also mentioned other places to visit in Bohol, such as the Bohol Bee Farm, which offers dishes using organic ingredients harvested on site and serves ube ice cream.

It also cited the famous Chocolate Hills, Balicasag Island, and Puntod Island, and dolphin watching as other Bohol attractions.
