Palawan's Tubbataha Reef, Puerto Galera's The Canyons among world's best dive sites

An international travel website recently named two diving spots in the country as among the world’s 50 best dive sites.

Tubbataha Reef in Palawan is eighth on the list drawn up by cnngo.com.

“The main advantage to diving at Tubbataha is that the water is exceptionally clean, so the marine life lives much longer, making it grow to silly proportions,” said cnngo.com.

Tubbataha Reef has been named as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was also nominated for the New7Wonders of the World.

The reef is a marine sanctuary, and is protected as Tubbataha Reef National Marine Park.

The other local dive site cited is The Canyons in Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro, which is 45th on the list.
The travel website cited The Canyons for its “schools of spotted and ribbon sweetlips, shiny trevallies and weird-looking batfish.”
