PHL woos Israeli tourists in Tel Aviv seminar

The Philippine Embassy in Israel is encouraging Israeli travel agencies to promote the Philippines as the next top adventure destination for Israeli tourists.

In a seminar in Tel Aviv on Sept. 29, Philippine Honorary Consul for Ashdod and Southern Israel Boaz Waksman strongly urged 40 Israeli travel agencies to promote the Philippines "as a travel destination for Israelis to discover for themselves the exciting adventures that the country has to offer."

Uri Shmueloff, events manager of Incentives and Events Manager of Ophir Tours, Ltd., gave a presentation of possible activities and adventure locales to draw in more travelers to the Philippines.

“There are a lot of activities appealing to the Israeli traveler in each destination in the Philippines,” Shmueloff said.

The seminar featured popular destinations in the Philippines including the Banaue Rice Terraces, Mt. Pinatubo, Taal, Palawan, Bohol, Puerto Galera, Boracay, Manila and Pangasinan.

A Hebrew version of "The Lonely Planet: Philippines," the first and only travel guidebook about the Philippines in the Hebrew language, was also launched at the event to promote the country to the public.

The Philippine Embassy in Israel organized the event in light of a new Memorandum of Agreement signed by El Al Airlines and the Philippine Airlines in September to increase the number of flights between each country.

It followed the Air Services Agreement signed by the Philippines and Israel on May 26, 2014 allowing direct flights to and from either destination.

Ambassador to Israel Neal Imperial said these agreements "are indicative of the growing air links and tourism potential between our two countries." —Rie Takumi/KBK, GMA News
