Jellyfish swarm El Nido beach, halts tourists' swim

An alarming number of jellyfish on Wednesday washed up on the shores of Nacpan, El Nido in Palawan.

According to a report on News To Go, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) temporarily restricted tourists from swimming in El Nido, a picturesque destination listed by a travel magazine as one of  the world's ten best beaches.

Nevertheless, the BFAR said the species present in the area is not deadly and jellyfish blooms such as this one is not an uncommon sight along the seashore during the months of June and August.

The number of jellyfish adrift near the bay occasionally increases due to climate change or the presence of their food in the water, the BFAR added. —Margaret Claire Layug/ALG/KVD, GMA News
