Inside the first class suite of one of the world’s best airlines
Singapore Airlines is consistently proclaimed the best airline in the world. It’s currently second best next only to Qatar, according to this year’s World Airline Awards, but with its new Airbus A380, the Lion City’s national carrier looks out to reclaim the top spot.
We mean: check out those beds — not foldable chairs mind, but actual beds — in its suites.
In lieu of the usual first class, Singapore Air now offers suites that feature a full-flat bed, adjustable reclining leather chairs, and two spacious lavatories — complete with a sit-down vanity counter — serving the six suites each aircraft carries.
The beds come with plush mattress bedding, two pillows, and a cotton duvet. You get a sleeper suit, slippers, eyeshades, and socks, as well as an amenity kit that comes complete with...a candle.
Suites can be booked as a single, or if you’re traveling on your honeymoon, as a double; and if you’re traveling long haul and find yourself not sleeping, you can actually stow away the bed and make more room, you know, to stand up and pace around.
Food in the suite section, of course, isn’t scrimped on. Every meal features sustainable ingredients and fresh local produce, which you can lift to your mouth using the very posh Wedgewood silver ware.
Feeling thirsty? Take your pick from the list of fine wine and/or champagne, and have them pour it into Lalique crystal glassware.
Are you feeling luxe yet?
The A380 currently serves Auckland, Beijing, Frankfurt, Hong Kong, London, Melbourne, Mumbai, New Delhu, New York, Paris, Shanghai, Sydney, and Zurich; and upon checking how much a roundtrip ticket to New York is on its website, learned that it goes for no less than $18,000.
