Basking in Boracay: Relax in a private cove at this world-class resort
Roughly four months after it reopened, Boracay is still in a shambles.
As of writing, there are still parts of the island that are in desperate need of fixing—half-done or abandoned buildings, electrical wires haphazardly strewn at head-level, tarps used to cover up unsightly mess, and roads still unpaved or dug up and left to dust.
But even in its current state, people flock to this tiny Philippine island for good reason: picturesque turquoise waters, fine white sand beach, and its beautiful sunsets.
Roughly 30 minutes from the port is Punta Bunga Cove, whose sight is enough to make you forget the arduous drive to this side of the island. It’s a stretch of white sand beach that’s home to three world-class hotels, one of which is Mövenpick Resort and Spa.
Now managed by international hotel group Accor, this Swiss-borne brand boasts of 312 guest rooms and suites, seven restaurants and bars, a spa, and the largest pool on the island.
It’s located right at the center of the beach, so you have the best view of the golden sunset from its outdoor beach bar, the Sol Marina Beach Club, its 3,300-square-meter pool, and the view deck.
The resort itself feels like a modern property in the middle of the jungle by the edge of the sea. According to Mövenpick Boracay General Manager André Brulhart, the hotel was built around the existing trees.
And as the hotel expanded, the resort's dutiful owner they made sure no tree was removed. As a result, the atmosphere around the resort is less humid and significantly less hot compared to the rest of the island.
The rooms at Mövenpick Boracay are spacious and efficiently designed. The hotel is modern and sleek but touches of tropical warmth are seen throughout the property. Descending towards the seashore from the reception area and The Cafè, you’ll pass by the 24-hour gym, their lush garden with fountains, and the gigantic pool that’s as inviting as it is beautiful.
Every day at 4pm, the resort hosts the deliciously infamous Chocolate Hour. It’s 60 minutes of all-you-can-eat chocolates and chocolate-based treats at The Cafè, one of the seven restaurants in the resort.
As the sun goes down, make your way to Sol Marina Beach Club; it has the best seats in the house to enjoy the glorious Boracay sunset. Their wide selection of bar grub is tasty and unique, rivaled only by their signature cocktails, and of course the picture-perfect sunset.
“It is wonderful to be able to welcome guests to Boracay. With our private beach, the amazing team at Mövenpick Boracay is ready to welcome guests with warm Filipino hospitality and create unsurpassed experiences,” says Mr. Brulhart.
So imagine basking under the warm summer sun, your toes sinking into the fine white sand, nothing but the birds and the sea making sounds as the waves swept every ounce of worry away with its rhythmic coming and going... This is paradise, you tell yourself. And perhaps for the first time, you’re right. — LA, GMA News
