Baguio's Wright Park horses starve, die over COVID-19 crisis

Ten horses in Baguio’s Wright Park, a popular tourist destination in the city, have died amid the coronavirus pandemic.

According to Ian Cruz’ report on “24 Oras” on Monday, horse owner Marvin Jamon said that the deaths were caused by a lack of food as Baguio remained closed to tourists.

“Namayat, nanghina. Siyempre hindi mo na maibalik ‘yung lakas nila kahit gusto mo buhayin,” Jamon said.

At Mines View Park, another popular destination in Baguio, vendors have also been reeling from the effects of the pandemic.

“‘Yun talaga ang inaasahan namin. Sana po magbukas na talaga para naman po sa ganoon, lahat po ng tagarito may trabaho na,” a vendor said.

Mayor Benjamin Magalong said that the local government has been studying when and how to reopen the city to tourists.

Baguio has recorded 341 COVID-19 cases of Monday afternoon, only 81 of which are still active. -NB, GMA News
