Inflight travel magazine Mabuhay is now online!

Mabuhay Magazine, Philippine Airlines' inflight read, has been around since 1963 and after nearly 60 years, it's finally online.

It's rather on time too as everybody's been grounded at home for nine months and travel has been limited for the most of us.

Online, Mabuhay boasts of city guides, insightful travel essays, a section on hotels — which allows for delicious daydreaming, if you ask us — and a shopping section for when you want to know what's available in the market in Metro Manila and beyond.

Mabuhay being online however doesn't mean that Philippine Airlines will discontinue printing a magazine for travellers onboard PAL flights.

According to Mabuhay's editor-in-chief James Ong, they will still be producing a physical magazine. "Our November-December issue is on onboard PAL flights, and the airline wants to continue having a print edition," he told GMA News Online via Facebook Messenger.

"The magazine is for PAL passengers exclusively, while the Mabuhay website is both for travellers and non-travellers alike. It is also useful for those residing in — not just visitors to — the destinations," he continued.

He says having a website has always been in the plans but like a lot of things, the pandemic hastened the move.

"The effects of the pandemic — suspended flights and lower passenger load — made it clear to us that it was something that needed to be implemented ASAP," Ong shared.

Mabuhay was founded in 1963 as an inflight magazine, making it "the country's oldest travel magazine in existence," he said proudly.

"In the last few years, we gave the magazine a design overhaul and adopted a more cosmopolitan point of view. We have added more stories about  international destinations, reflecting how the Filipino market has also matured," Ong added.

Apart from city guides, Mabuhay has also been featuring Filipinos based in PAL destinations, lending these foreign places a bit of familiarity and a touch of home. — LA, GMA News
