Pinoy photographer photoshops Northern Lights on Philippine landmarks

A Pinoy photographer just made the Philippines brighter by editing the Northern Lights over images of several landmarks across the country.

After chasing and taking photos of the Aurora Borealis for years, Edwin Martinez decided to share the beauty of this must-see phenomenon to his countrymen with the power of photoshop.

As seen on Wednesday's #KuyaKimAnoNa segment on "24 Oras," Edwin put the Northern Lights over the Mayon Volcano, the Manila City Hall, the Makati skyline, and Boracay Island.

The famous lights are formed when the sun's charged particles travel through the solar wind and hit the earth's atmosphere.

Though it comes in different colors, green is the one usually visible because of oxygen concentration.

The Northern Lights can be seen in Iceland, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Canada, Russia, Alaska, Greenland, and the Faroe Islands during the winter months.

According to Kuya Kim, it is not possible for the Northern Lights to appear in Philippine skies, as the country is located near the equator which has weaker magnetic fields.

Meanwhile, there are also Southern Lights or Aurora Australis, which are visible in areas near the South Pole like the Antarctica.
