Pampanga, Cavite emerge among top destinations as Filipinos favor quick, nearby trips

Pampanga and Cavite have emerged among the most booked travel destinations for Filipinos, signaling a shift toward short, nearby trips as travelers prioritize cost and convenience in 2026.

Data from travel platform Klook shows that alongside traditional leisure hubs, these Luzon provinces are now among the top booked destinations, reflecting changing travel behavior amid rising costs and global uncertainty.

The full list includes:

  • Metro Manila
  • Boracay
  • Cebu
  • Pampanga
  • Cavite

Klook Philippines General Manager Michelle Ho said the rise of these destinations highlights a growing preference for accessibility and flexibility.

Nearby over far-flung

Unlike Boracay and Cebu, which require flights, Pampanga and Cavite offer easy, land-based access from Metro Manila, making them attractive for shorter, more spontaneous trips.

“People are becoming more intentional about where they go,” Ho said. “They’re choosing destinations that are easier to reach and more predictable.”

This shift comes as higher fuel costs push up airfares and as travelers grow more cautious about long-haul trips.

The rise of short-haul travel

Klook said the trend reflects the growing appeal of:

  • Weekend getaways
  • Driveable destinations
  • Flexible, last-minute trips

Routes such as Manila to Baguio are also seeing strong demand, reinforcing the shift toward land travel and short-haul tourism.

Domestic travel holds steady

Despite the shift in preferences, domestic travel itself is not new. Klook data shows that 71% of Filipinos traveled locally in 2025, a figure expected to remain strong this year.

What is changing is where within the country people are going, with more travelers looking beyond traditional beach destinations.

Food, culture drive interest

The appeal of Pampanga and Cavite also aligns with broader travel trends.

Known for its culinary scene, Pampanga attracts food-driven travel, while Cavite offers historical sites and proximity, making it ideal for quick escapes.

These match findings that Filipinos are increasingly prioritizing:

  • Food experiences
  • Shared activities
  • Meaningful, localized trips

A shift in the travel mindset

The rise of these provinces suggests a deeper shift in how Filipinos approach travel, not just as a getaway, but as something that must balance cost, time, and experience.

“For any crisis, there is opportunity,” Ho said. “This is a chance to grow domestic tourism in new areas.” — LA, GMA Integrated News
