Senate impeachment court orders banks to testify in Sara Duterte trial
The Senate impeachment court has ordered officials from seven banks and seven financial firms to testify before the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.
This followed the court's grant of the prosecution's subpoena request on Day 32 of the Vice President's impeachment trial.
Those banks and financial firms covered by the subpoenas include the following:
- Land Bank of the Philippines
- Asia United Bank
- Philippine Savings Bank
- Metropolitan Bank and Trust Co.
- Bank of the Philippine Islands
- Philippine National Bank
- BDO Unibank.
- Prudential Life
- Allianz
- Manufacturers Life
- FWD Life
- BPI-AIA Life
- BDO Securities and
- BDO Life.
House lead prosecutor Gerville Luistro of Batangas said the prosecution intends to present this set of witnesses starting on Monday, October 6.
Likewise, the Senate impeachment court also granted the prosecution’s request for subpoenas for bank and financial records from the abovementioned institutions.
Escudero granted the prosecution’s request for subpoenas for the submission of bank and other financial records of the Vice President and her husband, Manases Carpio.
The prosecution is presenting evidence for Article 2 of the impeachment case against the Vice President, alleging unexplained wealth due to alleged failure to truthfully disclose assets in her Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALN) and failure to divest in businesses as required for the President and Vice President under a Constitutional provision. –NB, GMA News
