Vista Land turns over house to children of late OFW in Palawan
Villar-led Vista Land and Lifescapes Inc. has turned over a house and lot in Palawan to the five children of an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who died of cancer in 2021, the property developer said Tuesday.
In a news release, Vista Land said the new home at Camella Palawan was donated to the children of Baby Jane Teodoro Allas and was personally turned over by Villar Group Chairman Manny Villar to the siblings and their grandmother.
Allas, who worked in Hong Kong to support her family, died in 2021 from complications related to late-stage cervical cancer.
The company said Allas had been wrongfully dismissed by her former employer after she fell ill. A Hong Kong court later ordered the employer to pay approximately P2 million in damages, but the family has yet to receive the award because the employer went into hiding, according to Vista Land.
With the mother's death and the unpaid court award, the children reportedly faced financial difficulties and relied on their aunt, Mary Anne, and their grandmother for support, the company said.
Vista Land said the house was provided to give the siblings a permanent home and form part of its efforts to support vulnerable families, particularly those of migrant workers.
The company said its flagship residential brand Camella has projects across the country as part of efforts to address the housing needs of Filipino families, including those in emerging regional communities such as Palawan.— MCG, GMA News
