How fast? NTC tests internet speeds on MRT-3
The National Telecommunications Commission has conducted speed tests for internet and mobile signals on the MRT-3.
According to Bernadette Reyes' report on "24 Oras," two service providers registered speeds of up to 60 Mbps during the test conducted from North Avenue Station to Kamuning Station.
A third service provider only reached 21 Mpbs.
NTC Commissioner Ella Lopez herself oversaw the testing.
“May mga complaints din kami na nare-receive ukol sa internet speed po… Kung sa internet speed po, dapat hindi ito bababa sa 50 Mbps, ganoon po, dapat masunod po nila yun… So far po, may matataas po na internet speed na nasusukat, pero din po may mga lugar na mas mababa din,” Lopez said.
(We have received complaints about internet speed…When it comes to internet speed, this should not be lower than 50 Mbps; it is like that, it should be followed… So far, there are internet speeds that are fast but there are some places where they are slower.)
Some of the factors that slow down the internet speed could include the congestion of people in an area, as well as large buildings slowing down the area, according to Lopez.
Lopez appealed to network service providers to put up more cell sites to alleviate the issue. —NB, GMA News
