BIR files complaints vs. 2 firms over P45 million in unpaid taxes
The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) on Thursday said it filed two complaints with the Department of Justice against two corporations due to P45 million in tax liabilities for taxable years 2017 and 2018.
According to the BIR, the complaints are for the alleged violations of Section 255 of the National Internal Revenue Code of 1997, as amended.
“Our priority is to encourage voluntary compliance and help taxpayers meet their obligations. But when taxpayers willfully fail to comply with their tax obligations, the BIR must take appropriate enforcement action,” BIR Commissioner Charlito Mendoza said in a statement.
“We will continue to enforce our tax laws fairly and consistently, while protecting the interests of honest and compliant taxpayers,” he added.
According to the BIR, the first corporation was charged over unpaid income tax and value-added tax liabilities for taxable year 2017 amounting to P33 million.
Meanwhile, the second complaint involved tax liabilities amounting to P11 million. — Joahna Lei Casilao/BM, GMA News
