MVP still keen on Maya public listing
Business tycoon Manuel V. Pangilinan said Wednesday the plan to offer fintech firm Maya's share to the investing public is still on the table.
"I think the plan is still to list it next year. It's too late for this year," Pangilinan, who chairs Maya, said at the sidelines of Meralco's financial results briefing in Pasig City.
The plan for Maya to go public, both in the Philippines and the United States, through an initial public offering (IPO) was first disclosed by the businessman in February.
Pangilinan said he told the foreign shareholders of Maya about his preference that "if they want to have a NASDAQ listing, I have no objection, but I think there should be a listing here in the Philippines."
MVP cited the IPO of Mynt, GCash parent firm.
"You've seen the success of Mynt, it proven that a quality company… can attract a great deal of demand to the shares," Pangilinan said.
"I hope, Maya may not be the same scale as Mynt, but I think it can be a successful issue appropriate for its size," he added.
On October 20, Mynt Inc. officially listed on the Philippine Stock Exchange, raising P60.9 billion following its IPO with an offer price of P6.60 apiece. — VDV, GMA News
