The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on Wednesday said McDonald's will allow some 3,900 students and dropouts to work for the fast food chain following an agreement with the labor agency.   The beneficiaries should be under the Special Program of Employment for Students (SPES) of the Labor Department, DOLE Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz said in a statement on Wednesday.   “[The Labor Department] and the officials of Golden Arches Development Corporation, McDonald’s franchise holder in the Philippines will sign a Memorandum of Agreement on March 28,2012,” the statement said..   The student-employment program of DOLE seeks “to help poor but deserving students” to pursue education by providing employment through partner companies. The project covers high school, college and vocational/technical students, and out-of-school youth.   SPES beneficiaries aged 17 to 20 years old will work four to eight hours a day, six days a week for compensation not less than the minimum wage.   60 percent of the student-employee’s pay will be paid in cash, while the 40 percent will be in a form of education vouchers, which will be issued by DOLE for the payment of the student’s tuition fees and books, the DOLE statement said.   Students and out-of-school youth alike may apply their parents’ combined income not exceeding P120,000 per annum.   Applicants must bring the following requirements:

  • Duly Accomplished SPES Application Form;
  • Copy of birth certificate or any document that shows his/her date of birth;
  • Certification by the School Registrar/Form 138/original class cards;
  • Copy of latest Income Tax Return of parents or BIR certificate for exempted parent; and
  • Certificate of good moral character issued by the barangay (for out-of-school youth)
