PAL has filed petitions with the industry regulator for flights to Istanbul in Turkey, Phnom Penh in Cambodia, and Kuwait, according to CAB.

A PAL official, who asked not to be named in deference to PAL president Ramon Ang, said the airline has no comment on this matter, and that Ang will speak to the media when he is ready.

In separate petitions, PAL wants to be designated as the official Philippine carrier and allotted the equivalent entitlements to Istanbul under the  Bilateral Air Services Agreement and Confidential Memorandum of Understanding the Philippines and Turkey signed in February 2010.

The airline said its intends to mount flights to Istanbul from Manila and Istanbul three times weekly, using a Boeing 777 or Airbus A330-300, starting August 2013.

Also, the airline wants to use as basis for the same designation and seats entitlements for Kuwait the 2009 Confidential Memorandum of Understanding between the Philippines and the State of Kuwait.

In the case of Cambodia, PAL cited the Confidential Memorandum of Understanding, Manila and Phnom Penh signed last September 2009. The airline told CAB it wants a confirmation of its designation as the Philippine carrier and reallocation of entitlements to Cambodia. — VS, GMA News
