Sunwest Water builds renewable energy projects in Panay

Renewable energy developer Sunwest Water and Electric Co. Inc. (Suweco) on Monday said it it building nine hydropower plants with total generating capacity of 50 megawatts in Panay island, which is now suffering from power shortage.
"The establishment of Suweco's nine hydropower projects in Panay Island is a response to the government’s call to increase the estimated current energy supply of the country from renewable energy, from the current 20 percent to 50 percent in the next 15 years," the company noted in a statement.
The projects have a combined estimated cost of P9 billion or P180 million per MW.
Natividad said the projects are now in different stages of development with the Bugasong, Antique 8 MW Villasiga1 as the most advance. The P1.4-billion Villasiga1 is about 85 percent complete and is expected to start operating in June this year, he added.
Suweco president Jose Silvestre Natividad said projects are all in the Aklan and Antique.
