Cebu Pacific receives 45th aircraft
Budget airline Cebu Air Inc. (Cebu Pacific) received a brand new plane Friday as part of its ongoing re-fleeting program.
The delivery of the brand new Airbus A320 from Toulouse, France, brought the number of Cebu Pacific's existing fleet to 45.
Cebu Pacific vice president for marketing and distribution Candice Iyog said the “highly efficient, state-of-the-art aircraft” is equipped with Sharklet that allows airlines to save up to four percent on fuel consumption.
She said Cebu Pacific is the only airline in the Philippines that has the Sharklet technology, adding three of its Airbus A320s are equipped with it.
“We look forward to taking delivery of more aircraft, equipped with the most modern, best in class technology, for the benefit of our guests,” Iyog said.
Cebu Pacific’s current fleet consists of 26 Airbus A320s, 10 A319s, and eight ATR 72-500 aircraft.
The airline is unfazed by recent incidents involving two of its aircraft at the Davao International Airport and the Ninoy Aquino International Airport and is pursuing a massive re-fleeting program to beef up its fleet to reach 62 aircraft by 2017 from about 41 Airbus aircraft as of end-2012.
On June 2, a Cebu Pacific aircraft skidded off the runway of the Davao International Airport, paralyzing the airport's operations for almost two days. The incident has been blamed on pilot error.
Days later, a Cebu Pacific plane hit some runway lights at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport when it landed amid heavy rain. Authorities grounded the pilot of the plane involved in the incident. — KBK, GMA News
