The Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) and the University of the Philippines (UP) on Monday signed an agreement for the state university to establish a campus in Clark Green City.
In a statement Tuesday, the state-run BCDA said the agreement called for it to provide a site in Clark Green City for a UP campus. UP will take care of promoting and developing science and technology education and research.
The UP Clark will serve as a platform for the state university to expand its academic programs in Central Luzon over the next five years.
“The UP global campus in Clark Green City will position the Philippines as the nation of global citizens –being an English speaking nation in a country hosting a hub for global education and knowledge center," BCDA president chief executive officer Arnel Paciano Casanova said.
"It will also promote the Clark Freeport Zone and soon, the Clark Green City, as an intellectual hub for science and technology, education and research,” Casanova noted.
“The presence of a modern UP Global Campus will complement and drive the economic and human development of Clark Green City,” he added.
The UP campus in Clark Green City is the second project between BCDA and UP.
In a 2011 partnership, BCDA and UP established the UP Professional Schools on a 4,300-square meter lot donated by the state-run company in Bonifacio Global City.
BCDA is eyeing top global educational institutions to establish presence in Clark Green City.
“We expect Ivy League schools and top European schools to express interest to locate,” Casanova said. – VS, GMA News
