A power line tripped, causing brownouts in parts of Eastern Samar just before 1 a.m. Monday, the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines reported on its Twitter account.

As of 8 a.m., it was still working to restore transmission services to the Eastern Samar Electric Cooperative (ESAMELCO), said NGCP.

Citing initial reports, it said the 69-kilovolt Taft feeder tripped at 12:59 a.m. Monday.

While the Paranas-Taft section was re-energized at 1:52 a.m., it said the cooperative's Cabong and Buenavista substations remain isolated.

Low reserves for Visayas

Meanwhile, the NGCP power outlook for Monday indicated low reserves for the Visayas grid at 56 megawatts.

As of 6 a.m., it said the Visayas has a system capacity of 1,645 MW and a projected peak demand of 1,589 MW.

Luzon has a reserve of 668 MW, with a system capacity of 9,210 MW and a projected peak demand of 8,542 MW.

Mindanao has a projected power deficit of 100 MW, due to a system capacity of 1,209 MW and a peak demand of 1,309 MW. – Joel Locsin/VS, GMA News
