Indian firm Kalpataru Power Transmission Ltd. clinched P660 million worth of contracts from the Philippines for the supply, installation, testing and commissioning of steel towers and transmission lines in areas ravaged by Typhoon Reming late last year. The contract was awarded late Thursday by National Transmission Corp., and will take effect seven days after signing. Kalpataru is expected to complete all of its obligations 240 days after that. Under the deal, Kalpataru will fulfill three contracts: Package A for the Naga-Labo transmission line, Package B for the Tiwi Plant C-Naga transmission line and Package C for the Tiwi Plant A-Daraga, Naga-Daraga and Bacman-Daraga transmission lines. Package A costs P269.3 million, Package B P219.2 million, and Package C P171.2 million. Kalpataru is expected to "fully furnish all labor, materials, equipment and other incidentals necessary or convenient for the complete execution of the work scope.’’ Under the contract, Kalpataru will, among others, manufacture, supply and deliver transmission steel towers and line materials for the areas of the country damaged by Typhoon Reming late last year. Kalpataru is a company engaged in design, testing, fabrication, galvanizing of towers and construction of transmission lines. Typhoon Reming battered the Bicol Region in November last year, toppling 89 of Transco's steel towers and leaving 27 more either bent or broken in half, Transco president and chief executive Arthur N. Aguilar earlier said. The typhoon also damaged 887 wooden poles and various substation facilities and equipment in the same area. In January, Transco awarded two contracts worth P424.4 million to Chinese firm Xian Electric Engineering Co. for the restoration of 42 steel towers toppled by Typhoon Milenyo in late September.-GMANews.TV
