West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services Inc. is building a P1-billion sewage treatment (STP) plant in Pasay City to provide wastewater service for the cities of Pasay and Makati.
In an e-mailed statement Monday, Maynilad said the facility in Barangay Malibay is designed to treat up to 46,600 cubic meters of wastewater per day, equivalent to almost 2.5 million five-gallon water containers.
Once operational, the Pasay STP can serve up to 254,000 people in the cities of Pasay and Makati and will help clear the Maricaban Creek that leads to the Manila Bay, the company said.
"The expected date of completion of Pasay STP is December 2015," Stakeholder Communications head Jennifer Rufo said in a separate e-mail message to GMA News Online.
Partly funded by Maynilad’s World Bank loan, the plant will use the small activated sludge process, a technology used worldwide for wastewater treatment.
“We are driven to look for innovative ways to ensure the proper treatment and disposal of wastewater in our concession area," Maynilad president and CEO Ricky P. Vargas was quoted as saying.
Nearly half, or P8.2 billion, of the P18-billion capex was allotted to wastewater management projects that include building several sewage and septage treatment plants and conveyance systems in Muntinlupa, Parañaque, Pasay and Valenzuela. – Danessa O. Rivera/VS, GMA News
