Government agencies in Mindanao may soon get their supplies and equipment faster with the opening of a new government procurement hub in Cagayan de Oro City as the Philippine Postal Corp. (PHLPost) expands its operations from mail and stamps to warehousing and logistics operations.

“(F)rom the PHLPost warehouse in Cagayan de Oro, deliveries will only take 15 hours to Zamboanga, seven hours to Surigao, and nine hours to Koronadal. In the previous years, deliveries take three to five weeks," Procurement Service Executive Director Estanislao Granados said.

Granados said that in one year’s time, at least 522 20-footer vans are expected to pass through the PHLPost warehouse in Cagayan de Oro, the transit point for equipment and supplies bound for government agencies in Mindanao.

PHLPost and the Department of Budget and Management opened the facility at the PHLPost regional office in Macabalan, Cagayan De Oro last July 25.

"The opening of the CDO hub is a culmination of hard work to provide sustainable and accessible procurement services to clients in Mindanao. This is a beginning of rapid development in this part of the country and we feel privileged that we are part of this, as instruments of progress," Assistant Postmaster General Luis Carlos said.

He added the Procurement Service is to provide the needed equipment and supplies, "and we at PHLPost to serve as its warehousing and logistics provider.”

Carlos said such "synergy" between PHLPost and DBM’s Procurement Service is a good example of how government agencies should work as one.

"This procurement hub in CDO will be a showcase for a reliable, fast, and accessible service which we will replicate with partnerships with the Department of Health and other government agencies,” Carlos also said.  — Joel Locsin/ELR, GMA News
