Rolls-Royce Motor Cars sold more than 4,000 cars in 2014, four times its sales in 2009, the company said in an e-mailed statement on Wednesday.

"This fifth consecutive record year saw Rolls-Royce Motor Cars break through the 4,000 car sales level for the first time in its 111-year history,"  Rolls-Royce Motor Cars CEO Torsten Müller-Ötvös said.

Rolls-Royce sold globally a total of 4,063 cars last year.

"This exceptional result means that sales have more than quadrupled since 2009," it said.

Data from Rolls-Royce showed it sold 1,002 cars in 2009.

"Sales were driven by strong orders for Ghost Series II, launched in November, and Wraith, which enjoyed its first full year of sales, while the incomparable Phantom remains the company’s pinnacle product," the company said.

Rolls-Royce claimed that the company posted "strong sales" worldwide, with double-digit growth including North America, up 30 percent, Middle East, up 20 percent, and Europe, up 40 percent.

US remained the company's most significant individual market.

It said six new dealerships were opened last year including in Mexico City, Calgary, Canada, and Gold Coast in Australia.

The company said it created more than 200 new permanent jobs in the past 18 months to meet demand for Bespoke cars. — Kathryn Mae P. Tubadeza/BM, GMA News
