Cebu Pacific reviews P52-M fine, evaluates options

Cebu Pacific is now reviewing the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) order directing the budget airline to pay the government P52 million in fines for operational lapses and excessive flight delays.

In an e-mailed statement on Wednesday, operator Cebu Air Inc. said it has received CAB Resolution No. 4 and that the airline is "... currently in the process of reviewing the document, and its attendant legal ramifications.

"We note that there may be some matters of fact requiring clarification, and are evaluating all our options accordingly," the statement read.

CAB Executive Director Carmelo Arcilla said CAB Resolution No. 4 includes the P52,110,000 fine imposed on the Gokongkwei-led airline.

Arcilla earlier noted the airline could ask the CAB to reconsider through an appropriate motion.

If the CAB upholds its ruling, Cebu Pacific may further appeal the fine before the Court of Appeals, he said. – Kathryn Mae P. Tubadeza/VS, GMA News
