Online retailer Lazada removes banned products from website

Lazada Philippines on Monday said it has removed from its website the items that contain banned substances and will give customers who earlier bought slimming and skin-whitening products a full refund.

 

"Following the report that a few products listed on Lazada.com.ph contain banned substances, Lazada has since removed the products and is issuing a full refund to affected customers," the company said in a statement Monday evening.

 

EcoWaste Coalition on Sunday said the products banned by the Philippine Food and Drug Administration were still being sold online.

 

Products ranging from slimming coffee to body fat-burning orange juice have somehow ended up on e-commerce sites, like Lazada and OLX, the group said.

 

EcoWaste said it found the two online shopping sites selling skin-whitening and cosmetic products containing mercury, and slimming products with amphetamine, sibutramine and steroids.

Lazada said the products that were removed were sold by third-party sellers through the Lazada Philippines Marketplace.

 

The Marketplace is the company's online platform that allows third-party merchants to list their products in the Philippines.

 

"We are committed to having trusted merchants on our website, who are expected to be fully compliant with local laws and regulations," the company said.

 

"Lazada also proactively requests for Food and Drug Administration permits from merchants," it added.

 

The company said it delists non-compliant products from its site.
