(Updated 7:13 p.m.) Orders for aircraft parts manufactured in the Philippines may increase by tenfold in 15 years, Trade and Industry Secretary Gregory Domingo told reporters on Wednesday.
Aircraft manufacturer Airbus is placing more orders for Philippine-made airplane components, the Cabinet official said.
"Ang lakas ng interes nila sa atin... Dadami ang bibilhin nila sa atin at dadami ang mag-i-invest sa atin," added Domingo, who recently returned from an official trip to France, home to one of the world's leading aircraft maker, Airbus.
The Philippines makes aircraft parts for Airbus as well as its US competitor Boeing, the official noted.
About two years ago, B/E Aerospance Inc., a leading manufacturer of interior cabin products for commercial, business and military jets, opened a factory in Batangas – its first facility outside the US and Europe .
The Philippines is also host to Moog Controls Corp., which manufactures actuators for civilian aircraft at the Baguio City Economic Zone. The company founded the facility there in 1984.
"Magiging more significant ang role natin sa aerospace industry," Domingo said, noting that the Philippines is gaining attention for maintenance-repair-overhaul services as well. –Keith Richard Mariano/VS, GMA News
