GRABCAR FRANCHISE AT RISK

LTFRB enjoins MYTAXI.PH to stop operating GrabBike

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) sent a strongly worded letter to GrabCar Philippines (MYTAXI.PH Inc.), urging the company that its franchise could be canceled if they continue to provide GrabBike services.

An advertisement on GrabCar's official Facebook page, posted January 14, prompted the warning from the LTFRB.

The LTFRB reminded GrabCar it is not authorized to offer bikes and motorcycles as a public utility vehicle, saying, "Your company, MYTAXI.PH Inc., is accredited by the Board to only offer the services of Transportation Network Vehicles using your digital platform technology pursuant to Department Order No. 2015-011."

The LTFRB asked the operator to write a letter explaining why the company "engages in a service not yet authorized by the Board."

As of this posting, the link to GrabBike in GrabCar's official website is no longer active. However, netizens are still tweeting about the service.

GrabBike was introduced to commuters in November 2015, as an alternative – to book a motorcycle instead of a car – to their commute.

The LTFRB immediately called for a meeting after it was rolled out in Taguig City, saying that bikes and motorcycles are not part of GrabCar's accredited services. – Aya Tantiangco/VS, GMA News
