Top 10 highest paid gov't officials earned P100M in 2015 — COA

The top 10 highest paid government officials made P99.981 million in 2015, the Commission on Audit (COA) said in a report.

Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Governor Amando M. Tetangco Jr. topped the list of highest paid government officials in 2015, according to the commission.

Tetangco's salary is, "I think, more than deserved," according to another central bank official, who asked not to be named.

"As far as the BSP is concerned we have no comment," he added.

According to the "Report on Salaries and Allowances" or ROSA, which include government officials and governing members of government-owned or -controlled corporations (GOCCs), Tetangco made P13.957 million last year.

Tetangco's earnings consisted of a basic salary of P6.69 in million, P24,000 of honorariums, P2.448 million of allowances, P3.9 million of bonuses, and P879,456.73 worth of discretionary and extraordinary miscellaneous expenses.

Following Tetangco is Government Service Insurance System President Robert Vergara who earned P13.449 million.

Teresita Herbosa, chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission, ranked third with P9.801 million, followed by Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) Vice President Anthony Robles with 9.368 million.

BSP Deputy Governor for Supervision and Examination Sector Nestor Espenilla Jr. ranked fifth with P9.181 million, while BSP Deputy Governor for Monetary Stability Sector Diwa Gunigundo ranked sixth with P9.155 million.

DBP Chief Risk Officer Alexander Patricio is seventh with P9.058 million and BSP Deputy Governor for Resource Management Sector Vicente Aquino is eighth with P9.032 million.

The ninth and 10th highest paid government officials were DBP Executive Vice President and Chief Development Officer Benel Lagua with P8.529 million and DBP Head of Financial Resource Sector Fe Susan Prado with P8.451 million.

The ROSA looks at the total amount of salaries and allowances received by Cabinet officials, principal officers and members of GOCCs, and other officials of national government agencies.

Excluded from the report are the earnings of elected government officials such as the President, senators and congressmen, and local government officials.

A total of 8,311 government officials from 957 government agencies were covered by the COA report. — VDS, GMA News
