DMCI building 95-MW power plant in Palawan

DMCI Power Corp. on is building a P600-million bunker-fired power plant in Aborlan, Palawan to stabilize the supply of Palawan Electric Cooperative Inc. (PALECO)

Set to commence operations by year-end, the plant is a 2x4.95-megawatt (MW) plant which will cater to some 2,223 households in Aborlan—a first class municipality 69 kilometers south of Puerto Princesa City—that still do not have any electricity.

“We are investing approximately P600 million in Aborlan to address the continuing increase in electricity demand in the province due to the rise of local tourism and commercial establishments,” DMCI Power President Nestor D. Dadivas said in a regulatory filing.

Latest data showed that only 5,400 of the 7,263 households in Aborlan have electrical connections as of June 2016.

Aside from Palawan, DMCI also supplies power to Masbate, Calapan, Oriental Mindoro, and Sultan Kudarat with a total contracted capacity of about 56 MW.

DMCI is a subsidiary of Consunji-led conglomerate DMCI Holdings Inc., doing business in power generation as well as constructing and operating power plants. — Jon Viktor Cabuenas/VDS, GMA News
